Independence on Wheels Announces Group Meetup to Promote Accessible Outdoor Exploration in Exeter
EXETER, UK — Independence on Wheels, a local community initiative dedicated to accessible outdoor mobility, is proud to announce its next group meetup on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026. The event will kick off at 12:00 PM at the Sidwell Community Centre on Sidwell Street.
Navigating urban environments can be a significant challenge for those using mobility aids. "Navigating broken pavements, steep hills, or high kerbs alone can feel daunting," says the organizers of Independence on Wheels. "Joining our club means you roll in a supportive group along routes that have already been checked for safety. Our members can focus entirely on enjoying the fresh air, knowing the path ahead is wide, flat, and completely accessible."
The upcoming event serves as an invitation for new and existing members to gather for a safety briefing and coffee before embarking on a pre-scouted, accessible route through the city’s green spaces. The group aims to reduce social isolation and increase confidence for wheelchair and mobility scooter users by providing a predictable, safe, and friendly environment.
Event Highlights:
Safety First: All routes are pre-checked for width, gradient, and surface quality.
Community Support: A chance to meet others and share tips on navigating the city.
Local Hub: Hosted at the Sidwell Community Centre, a central point for Exeter’s community services.
Exeter residents who use mobility scooters or wheelchairs, as well as their companions, are encouraged to attend. No prior registration is required, though attendees are encouraged to arrive at 12:00 PM for the initial briefing.
